Leaving for self cycle the 24th of June....this month!

Well we are heading to Delhi with 12y/o to do a full cycle with Dr Shivani. Only a couple of weeks to go now! Its exciting going to another country and we are looking forward to the warm weather as its freezing in Melbourne at the mo! Staying at Svelte so 12y/o can enjoy a swim and some extra space. I just hope Jay has a good time in India as he is sacrificing 3 footy games to come. He wants to play for the AFL and is a very passionate sports nut. Thank you my beautiful boy, there will be lots more footy games but Mummy's eggs are ageing rapidly! Lol! But I still feel really bad:(
Went to a fertility Dr yesterday with MB to get MBs fertility test and ask about possible part cycle in Melbourne, if this cycle is unsuccessful. My Gf works for a Ob/GYN and recommended this Dr as surrogacy friendly. I even checked with her receptionist prior to booking a couple of months ago.
Lets just say after driving into the city and waiting for 40mins to see her we wish we hadn't bothered!
She was surrogacy friendly with every place except for India. I expected her to ask about the care of the surrogate, the care of me self cycling. She was baffled why anyone would go to India for medical treatment. I patiently explained that I don't qualify in Melbourne and the care was world class with Dr S and how qualified and experienced she is, working in London, etc.. She asked why we didn't think we were ever placed with an adoptive/permanent care child? As if it was OUR fault. Why don't we do foster care? We should have just walked out and told her to jam her uneducated opinions and her $175 dollar fee!
MB and I had a stressful drive home with the fear she tried to put into us. I had to let him chill. Then I explained all I had researched, risks are there with ALL pregnancies, god knows we had enough to sink a boat with 12/yo's birth! Getting in a car, crossing the street are all risks!
If the fertility Dr came up with concerns that were educated and well informed I'd be there. When Drs or people in general come up with concerns or opinions that are uneducated, it frustrates me, immensely!
I know this is not for everyone and I appreciate that, its not an easy thing to go though, financially, emotionally, logistically. Any way thats my rant for the day!

  1. I hear you!! Our MIVF specialist was the same. No empathy for us, or recognition that this is very though and really a last resort. She just went on to tell us the risks of treatment in india and then gave us a list of US clinics. I think they also have a financial interest for people not do go overseas. They are certainly not as busy now than they were a few years ago when prices were much less.

Good luck and hope you only need one cycle.

  2. So many of us have had the extra stress of actual or potential negative comments regarding our adventure. Its not for everyone, but it is for us and with very few or nil other avenues its the path we have chosen. Dont let anyone get you down, look to your happy future ahead! Its all the motivation youll need. xx
